Where did you get your love for baking?
I grew up in the kitchen. I think I remember helping as early as 6 when I’d stand on a stool and stir cookie dough or peel carrots for my mother. My Gramma, mom, and three aunts (one of whom was a professional chef) are all fantastic cooks and bakers. I’ve learned a lot from all of them. We’re a family of self-professed foodies, so when we get together, it’s all about the food. My first experience with amazing homemade bread was with my aunt’s sourdough.

Tell me about Spring Hill Bakery?
Spring Hill Bakery is really my passion for fresh bread turned into a small business. I’ve converted my kitchen into an at-home bakery and I bake everything from scratch, using the best ingredients I can get my hands on. Right now I make Artisan breads, Jalapeño Cheddar, and our best-seller, Cinnamon Brown Sugar. I will be adding a Bread of the Month beginning in June. The first one will most likely be Roasted Garlic & Rosemary Artisan bread. I’ll also be adding sourdough as a regular once I get some of my aunt’s starter. It’ll change your life.SpringHillBakeryBread

What do you find most challenging about running your own business?
Working in a residential kitchen has its drawbacks. There are only so many breads I can fit in my oven at once, so the process is slower than I would like. On the positive side, everything is made in small batches, so I have a lot of control over quality. I’m also struggling with trying to do this slowly because so far I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from people excited to have a bread bakery. I’ve started toying with the idea of turning this into a brick-and-mortar, but I’m trying to make wise financial decisions so we succeed when we make that leap someday.
