What made you want to start in the goat grazing business?
This was an idea we had for a while. We were using goats on the farm to clear brush and create pasture because it is what they are designed to do. They are as green and eco-friendly as it gets. Being ruminants they are biologically built to eat a wide range of brush and vegetation. They sterilize most weed seeds in their digestive process therefore reducing the seed bank and improving land quality. They are incredible climbers and can go where people and machines cannot. They can eat many invasive species and reduce the amount of bio mass immensely reducing the debris on site. These animals are media magnets and can generate positive PR for the customer, and people love having them! With the increase of environmental awareness, we saw a need and the efficiency of a chemical free land management system. We love our job! Being outdoors, herding goats, beautifying land, and caring for our customers is as good as it gets!

How long have you been doing this in Williamson County?
We have been doing this in Williamson county for 2 years. We are also affiliates with Tammy Dunakin, owner of Rent-a-Ruminant in Washington who has been operating for over 10 years.

3

What kinds of projects are your goats best for?
The goats are best for reclaiming overgrown property. This system is very effective and in many cases cost less than more traditional methods. This is particularly true for steep slopes, rough terrain, protected, and sensitive areas where machinery and people cannot work safely. They are a great fit for homeowners, parks, cities, military bases, schools, construction sites and many other applications.

4

Have you added goats to your team over the time you’ve been in business?
Yes, we started with 30 goats and 30 sheep. We now have 80 goats and 80 sheep.

5

How do customers prepare for the goats?
Customers will let the neighbors know before we arrive and help us keep the goats as safe and healthy as possible while on site. We do all the work and only ask that the customer inform us of any dangers the animals might face.
