A native California girl that is taking Nashville by surprise with her latest EP.  We sat down with Cam to learn more about how does one go by just one name and  what it’s like to work with a Grammy winning producer who has also worked with Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars, just to name a few.

1.

How did you decide to go by one name?
My last name was too hard to pronounce: Ochs but it sounds like “Oaks” – it felt better to just go by Cam, which is what my friends call me, and my fans always feel more like friends anyway.2

2

Tell us how you got your start in  music?
In a county children’s choir, that trained my ear and taught me music theory.

3

We noticed you wear the color yellow often, is this your signature color?
Yes it is! I grew up in California and that’s the sunshine I get to bring with me everywhere.

4

Can you tell us about your latest EP ‘Burning House’?
It’s about a fella I dated off and on in college. A couple years after we broke up I was going to see him at a party so I started planning an apology for how things ended. The night before the party I had a dream about a burning house – he was trapped inside and I stayed with him so he wouldn’t have to die alone. So heavy, I know. The song is about that person you love but can’t be with, except in your dreams.

5

How did you begin working with producer, Jeff Bhasker?
My friend and main cowriter was working with him and started showing him songs, it was a really gradual and organic mentorship that I can’t imagine my life without.
