5 Ideas To Spice Up Dad’s Day

That time of year, dad’s time. Some may argue that every day is dad’s day. I would beg to differ, as I am a proud member of the Dad Nation. A cold beverage, the final round of the U.S. Open, that phone call from my son saying Happy Father’s Day and we’ll do something soon. It’s the thought that counts.

I, like many dads across our great country, enjoy cooking. We like spices and rubs. If it can be smoked, grilled, baked or pan fried, we’re your huckleberries. I have found the greatest place in the world to find things that tantalize my taste buds to be Savory Spice Shop on Main Street in Downtown Franklin, Tennessee. A smorgasbord of deliciousness that you can smell, touch and taste (yes, taste anything in the store) await when you walk in the door. Here are my 5 Favorite ideas to spice up dad’s day.

  • Pit Boss Gift Pack

PitBoss-600x651We all know a grilling aficionado who always wants to ‘go big’ when seasoning their favorite dishes and special recipes. This set was created with those ‘Pit Boss’ types in mind. These four jumbo sized rubs represent the best offerings from the BBQ capitols of the country. The Memphis Rub is my favorite and is great on everything, even salads!

  • Pimento Wood Chips and Leaves

ChipsLeaves-600x776Pimento wood comes from the Jamaican allspice tree and is used in authentic jerk preparation. Pimento wood chips and leaves can be used in a smoker or placed in a smoker box. For a unique taste of the tropics, use Savory Spice Shop’s Jamaican Jerk blend to marinade or rub meat, vegetables, or fish before smoking.

  • Hickory Smoked Sea Salt

Loved this since the first day I opened a jar and the smell of hickory smoke hit my nostrils. I use this on everything! I don’t use 1/2 the salt I used to because I don’t need as much for flavor. Cooking with it indoors will add a small “smoky” taste to dishes when needed. You’ll love the way it makes your pantry smell also!

  • Best of BBQ Gift Pack

Fire up the grill! These blends are designed to expand your barbecuing experience by not only making it easier but also more flavorful. All are great for grilling but if the weather stops you, they also can be used for broiling and pan-frying.

  • Bloody Mary Ingredients

Mellow Mushroom right across the street from the Franklin Savory Spice Shop has approximately 20 different Savory spices they use on weekends for their Build Your Own Bloody Mary menu on the weekends. Savory offers such interesting items as Worcestershire Powder, Horseradish Powder, Tomato Powder. Great rims include Cajun, Hickory Smoked Sea Salt and Bourbon Barrel Pepper. And for you “Hot Heads” Ghost Pepper Sea Salt or Carolina Ed’s Grim Reaper Hot Sauce.

So stop in to Savory Spice Shop in Downtown Franklin and surprise dad with some great spices!
