It’s a holiday weekend, why not try something new on your day off? Take a road trip to visit some of these interesting general stores across Tennessee. The concept of a general store is a very old concept and very few general stores actually exist. Step back in time, buy a cold drink from a vending machine and sit for a moment to enjoy a slice of Americana.
1.Lynchburg-If you visit the Jack Daniels Distillery, you may have visited the town square where this general store resides.
2.Reliance-Check out this quaint little store which is quite the tourist attraction.
3. Belfast is home to one of the few general stores that is listed on the National Registrar of Historic places.
4. Clarkrange’s Cumberland Mountain General Store houses one of the few general stores that still serves ice cream.
5. Skullbone-We find this one the most interesting. Check out the signage “Skullbone: Kingdom of Skullbonia” and “Hampton’s Store” and “City Hall” and “Mayors Office Upstairs” and — because the building once served as the post office, the names of various postmasters who served the community.
