5 Crazy World Records Held in TN

Tennesseans are known for many things  but we think these world record holders will blow your mind and it all happened right here in Tennessee. Only in your state gives us the top five crazy world records held in Tennessee. Holding a spot in The Guinness Book of World Records is not only wildly exciting, but pretty entertaining for the rest of us. Tennessee has its own claim to fame with a couple of neat record holders in state.

1) Until 2012, UT held the record for the largest cardboard fort with 4,822 boxes. Bummer is? It was broken in 2014 by Nick Clark, who nearly tripled the cardboard box count with 12,301. We’re still going to give Knoxville a pat on the back and say good job, buddy – good job.

2) If you have memories of slipping and sliding across a strip of watered down plastic in your childhood, then you’ll appreciate the 135,841 feet that was traveled on a slip ‘n slide in Memphis, TN in just one hour. That’s 4,072 slides! Nice work, Memphis. We see you.

3) On May 22, 2014 Destination ImagiNation managed to get 752 people to wear duct tape clothing – at the same exact time (photo above).

4) In 2009, 6,651 participants gathered at the Sommet Center in Nashville for the largest singing lesson – ever. The Sweet Adelines International Convention and Competition happens yearly as a way to extend education as to the world of barbershop.

5) David and Lauren Blair of Hendersonville, Tennessee hold the record for the most weddings performed as of 2014. The grand total? 108. That’s a lot of, ‘I Do’s’ under their belts, but they don’t seem to mind. In fact, they’ve married everywhere from Honolulu, Hawaii to Graceland in Memphis.
