5 Classes You Should Try at the YMCA

Getting fit is no easy task. It requires consistently eating right and exercising regularly. The YMCA, however, has classes for every level of fitness to make it easier to get fit and stay fit. Here are 5 classes you should try.

1. H20 Cardio

For those that have movement issues due to arthritis or chronic pain, exercising in the pool is one of the best options due to decreasing the stress on the body, but increasing the resistance your body may feel in a particular movement. This class specifically gives all the benefits of cardiovascular conditioning classes, but because it is in the pool, there’s less stress on your body with the same calorie burn!

2. Body Pump

For something with high-impact, high activity cardio while also strengthening your muscles, the Body Pump class is a good option. It’s a 60-minute class in which you use barbells in a Les Mills designed workout that will strengthen all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises from squats and presses to lifts and curls. The best part about this class is that they change it up every quarter, so you’re not doing the same things year round.

3. Dance Blast

If you like to dance, this class is for you. You still get all the benefits of exercising while learning and performing a fusion of dance moves from all types of dance styles. They use different choreography to build up your skills so that you can dance everything from hip-hop, traditional aerobics, funk, jazz and more. This is a high-activity cardio class that burns those calories in a fun environment with something you just might love.

4. Bootcamp

If you need your exercising to feel like you’re being drilled, this is the option for you. It includes a variety of Sports conditioning drills, strength training, intervals, and endurance cardio drills that keep your body guessing while getting results. The bootcamp classes are meant to be high-intensity, short bursts of activity balanced with what you need to warm up and cool down properly.

5. RIPPED

The RIPPED class, more commonly known to YMCA-ers as The One Stop Body Shock utilizes strength and cardio training, while masterfully combining Resistance, Intervals, Power, Plyometrics, and Endurance training for the results that you want. Unlike the other classes, this also includes some dietary suggestions for those that struggle to come up with healthy things to eat throughout their week. This can be great for those needing some accountability as well as getting the necessary exercise you need throughout the week.
