In late February, eight University of Tennessee students were arrested in connection with a dorm room robbery. Three of those students hail from Williamson County and will appear in court on June 16th.

Here is the original report of the incident from WVLT Local 8 of Knoxville:

The incident was reported to UTPD on February 27. Due to the delay in receiving the report, UTPD determined that there was not an immediate threat to the campus and therefore did not issue a Safety Notice.

The two victims who reported the crime are male students who live together in North Carrick Hall. The victims and a witness, who was in their room at the time, told police that two people they know came to their room on the evening of February 24. As they opened the door to let the two individuals in, six more people entered the residence hall room.

Once inside, the suspects demanded money and stole several items from the room. The victims told police that they did not interfere with the suspects because they felt intimidated by the eight people in their room. The suspects also insinuated they would cause the victims physical harm if they did not comply, the victims reported.

No weapons were used in the commission of this crime, but robbery can be facilitated by a threat of violence and intimidation. After conducting an initial investigation, UTPD obtained warrants on March 4 for the eight suspects.
