One of the underappreciated aspects about living in Music City is that we have three major interstates crossing within a mile of each other in the middle of our city. This means that during the moment that Music City isn’t one big parking lot, it’s a major hub of travel — and it’s easy to get out of town when things start to feel a little crowded. If you’re looking for a quick getaway this Fourth of July weekend, here are 3 fantastic places to visit that aren’t that far away:

St. Louis

The closest, largest city to Williamson County, St. Louis is the gateway to the west and only a few hours away. With a metro population of about 2.8 million people, it is like Nashville-and-a-half.

Summer is the perfect time to catch a Cardinals game, see the famous Gateway Arch, and enjoy a dinner over-looking the mighty Mississippi River.

Everywhere in the south makes its own style of Southern Barbeque, and most everywhere boasts that theirs is the best. If St. Louis-style BBQ is not the best, it is up there. BBQ and the blues, in St. Louis, means Soulard neighborhood, built back in the 1790s. In the southeast part of the city, Soulard’s brick-lined streets fill up with blues notes and BBQ smoke at night, from its many bars, restaurants and breweries.

Other spots to hit include the City Museum, the sprawling historic Forest Park, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Science Center, St. Louis Art Museum, Missouri Botanical Garden and the Cathedral Basilica.
