Two new parks will open in Brentwood just in time for residents to enjoy the parks this summer.
Along Interstate 65 at Wikle Road West will be the 15-acre Wikle Park and just east of that will be 8.7 acre Flagpole Park.
Brentwood just approved the purchase of playground equipment for Wikle Park, at the end of February, but the parks will hold much more than that.
As seen in the conceptual plan below (click to enlarge), Flagpole Park’s plan includes two multipurpose fields big enough for soccer or football games, a half-court basketball court, restrooms, parking for 100 cars accessible off Mallory Lane and a paved walking trail that connects to Wikle Park. There is an expansion area that could hold a tennis court and the other half of a basketball court in the future.
Wikle Park, the larger of the two, follows more of an open-space-and-lawn concept, and has an encircling walking path, a bermed play area and playground for which commissioners just approved an $80,000 plan that includes swings, a spiral slide, rainbow loops, a grasshopper and bumblebee spring rider, climbing structure and two modular structures.
The parks are connected by walking paths rather than a road. Both will close at dusk and not be lit at night, save for the parking lot which will be lit for safety.
