O’More College of Design is proud to announce that tickets are now on sale for thier 2016 Fashion Show, held on Thursday, May 12. For the first time, the beloved annual event will be held at John C. Tune Airport in Nashville.
The Fashion Show will highlight 18 well-designed, well-made and beautiful collections from juniors and seniors at the school, located in downtown Franklin.
“Anticipation of the show is always great, but it cannot be greater than this year when instead of trying to coax the fashion industry to come to Franklin, we are going to the industry in Nashville,” says Dr. David Rosen, president of O’More.
Dr. Rosen says the decision to move the show from Franklin to Nashville was a strategic one that speaks to his desire to integrate the school and students into the local community. “The location and the approach are meant to reinforce this idea of joining,” he says. “We have chosen to be in Nashville, the city that is the focus of our education, but also to take our show to what is considered a hip location.” Nashville is home to the fourth largest fashion industry in the United States, and is where many O’More alumnae are employed.
The work on the runway at the Fashion Show will represent the culmination of years of study. Styles covered in the show range from Japanese draping with an apocalyptic edge to mod children’s knitwear, with collections featuring colorful, androgynous clothing for men and women, Shibori dyeing techniques incorporated in plus-size clothing, and minimalist fashion with an architectural influence in between.
Preparation for the fashion show is an intensive process that starts well before the day of the event, says Jamie Atlas, chair of O’More’s School of Fashion. “Student designers are put through a rigorous critiquing process that begins in the fall and continues through the spring semester,” she explains. “Faculty and industry mentors provide guidance to each student. This year we are very honored to have Laura Horner, designer for Draper James, Victoria Kopyar, owner and designer for VK Sport, and Shelley Sarmiento, Chief Strategy Officer for Omega Apparel, Inc. serve as the mentors. Each of them brings a business and design mindset to the table.”
During the show, student collections will be critiqued by a panel of distinguished judges. Designers will compete for the Design Achievement and Distinguished Designer Awards, which include a one-year professional membership to the Nashville Fashion Alliance (NFA), technical and design services from Omega Apparel, Inc., and fabric packages by Olah, Inc.
Tickets for the show may be purchased at O’More Fashion Show. General admission is $50 and VIP tickets, which include a pre-show party and reserved seating, are $125. Sponsorship packages are also available. All proceeds are directed to student scholarships.
Doors for the 2016 O’More College of Design Fashion Show will open at 6:30 PM; the show will begin at 8 PM.
