3.Florence Baptistery Doors
The Florence Baptistery doors have many sets of doors that are well known. The original, south doors were designed by Andrea Pisano. Later, Florence held a competition for the design of the north doors to match the south. The completed doors were described as being worthy of being the “gates of paradise” and has been called that ever since. They are part of the oldest building in Florence and were constructed by Ghiberti who won the competition to design them in 1401.
Ghiberti took 21 years to finish casting the 28 bronze panels that later became the north doors depicting the life of Christ from the New Testaments. Ghiberti also designed the east doors which were 10 panels that shows images from the Old Testament.
