With City Expanding, So Must Spring Hill City Hall

Monday night at the Spring Hill Planning Commission the future of city hall was talked about.

For a while now, as is discussed often by members of the Board and Alderman, the city has needs for a larger city center. They will vote on the proposal and see what it will look like.

Alderman Matt Fitterer, in discussing the budget, said beyond road there are also needs to think about like an expanded police station, which is part of city hall, and as the city itself continues to grow the administrative center must also.

Planners on Monday discussed a proposal to add 8,500 square feet to the existing town hall on a 3-acre site.

Dempsey, Dilling and Associates, the designer of the project, would add some of that much needed space at 101 Town Center Parkway.

“The general building design guidelines are intended to protect the integrity and enhance the value of the City’s existing neighborhoods by articulating to the development community those design values and preferences that the City has determined will result in a high quality built environment, while maintaining the community’s uniqueness and an authentic sense of place. In order to achieve that intent, the guidelines,” wrote Jon Baughman, planning director, for the city of Spring Hill.

Last year a developer backed out of a project to buy the old Tennessee Children’s Home site

The Tennessee Children’s Home property would have created a whole new town center for the city. It was planned as the site of the downtown project, which called for the 102-acre property to be transformed into a mixed-use city center and town square that would have included, among other things, a new city hall, a library and 320,000 square feet of office space. The town square would have comprised of retail, restaurant, office and residential components. Historic Ferguson Hall, which sits on the property, would have served as a visitor’s center under the proposed plan. KCS Development, who had a contract to buy the land, backed out of the project last year.
