Williamson Weekend: 5 Things to do This Weekend

1. Bluegrass Along the Harpeth

WHAT:  The streets of downtown Franklin will be filled with bluegrass music. It was started in 1991 and has had several homes in Franklin over the years. Most recently it has made its home on the town square. The historical backdrop is the perfect place for a weekend of music in honor of Franklin’s own Grand Ole Opry stars Sam and Kirk McGee.

Proceeds benefit the Williamson County Cultural Arts Commission.

WHEN: July 21-22

Friday night the music begins at 7 p.m. with The Bakery Family and Breaking Glass. On Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m., you will find some of the best musicians anywhere competing in individual instruments and band contests. Admission is free.

2. Bethlehem United Methodist Fish Fry

WHAT: Be a part of the biggest backyard party, with over 1,800 pounds of fresh catfish. It’s an old fashioned social with bluegrass music, food and children’s games. The event will take place Friday, July 21 in the Grassland community. Cost for adults are $10 in advance at the church and $13 the day of the event. Children 10 and under are $6 and children under three are free! Hot dogs are available for children and a separate carryout serving area is provided.

3.  Rodeo & Juliet Summer Concert Series

WHAT: Your hosts Chris and Jan Harris (aka Rodeo and Juliet) have spent the past 40 years producing, singing, touring & writing with a wide array of artists – Stevie Ray Vaughn, Loretta Lynn, Amy Grant, Kristin Chenoweth, Michael W Smith and CeCe Winans just to name a few. Come celebrate this summer and make musical memories with the “Dear Hearts and Gentle People” of Franklin Tennessee.

This week’s special guest is Marc Martel who recently was on tour with Queen.

4. 2017 Antiquarian Book Fair

WHAT:  It’s the 8th annual antique book fair. The fair will include a variety of collectible and rare books, autographed documents, and other ephemera. Bibliophiles will discover modern first editions of literature, mystery, and science fiction. Collectible books and documents concerning the War Between the States, the American Revolution, and both World Wars will be available. Admission is $10.

5. Summer Concert Series: The South Street Players

WHAT:  The City of Brentwood presents its summer concert series with featured guests, The South Street Players. Bring a lawn chair and picnic dinner while you listen to a free concert.  Members of The South Street Players include Greg Jennings, Jared Roberts, Jim Roberts, Fred Satterfield, and Steve Williams.
