Williamson County Schools is asking local business owners to be on alert.
There are reports that someone claiming to work for a business called FMG or FMGprint.com based out of Texas is contacting local businesses and offering to sell advertising for Brentwood High School’s baseball poster. According to the person who received the call, the FMG representative made it sound like a fundraiser for the school but the school would not have received any proceeds.
This company is not affiliated with Williamson County Schools. Also be advised that out of town businesses typically do not sell products on behalf of our schools or school district.
“It’s against Tennessee law for a company to use any school name for a fundraiser without our approval,” said WCS Deputy Superintendent and General Counsel Jason Golden. “This tends to happen occasionally at this time of year. We have from time to time sent letters to these companies citing the Tennessee law, but some of them fly under the radar because they solicit businesses directly and we only hear of it after the fact or not at all.”
If you have any questions about any solicitation you receive, please give your principal or local law enforcement a call. Each principal is aware of fundraisers that are being conducted on behalf of a particular school.
“Support from the local business community is vital to the success of our schools,” said WCS Communications Director Carol Birdsong. “We want to make sure that business owners know their investment benefits Williamson County students, and we appreciate business owners who contact us when they receive questionable solicitations.”
