Due to a generous bequest from the estate of Fread Edward Wise, a longtime county employee and animal lover, the Williamson County Animal Control and Adoption Center has a new surgery suite. This $16,000 gift will benefit the county and its residents.

The new glass-enclosed suite is 210 square feet and was built within the facility on Claude Yates Drive. “The bequest has greatly enhanced the capabilities of the county department to provide free spay and neuter surgeries to qualified residents as well as provide daily care to animals at the facility,” said Doug Brightwell, Director.
“We do hundreds of free spay and neuter procedures each year through a special grant program,” says Brightwell. “Now, in the new surgery suite, we have the capability to have two surgeons working at one time. Recently, we performed 26 operations over a two-day period.” Brightwell says that would have been impossible in the facility’s old surgery suite which was about 50 square feet in size.
The new facility is state of the art. “It is wonderful to work with new equipment, plus the suite gives me full view of the surrounding clinic and staff, and the additional space provides plenty of elbow room for a second surgeon,” said Dr. Stacy Haggard, staff veterinarian. Mayor Rogers Anderson was also moved by the donation saying, “Through Mr. Wise’s careful planning and thoughtful bequest, the animals of Williamson County will continue to receive superior care. It is great to know that he left his mark on the county in such a positive way and that his bequest went toward something he truly loved.”
