The Brentwood Bruins look to build on their Week 6 win when they host the winless West Creek Coyotes. Ravenwood exits its bye week with a matchup against the struggling McGavock Raiders.

See below for a closer look at those matchups:

West Creek (0-6, 0-3) at Brentwood (3-3, 2-1), 7 p.m. Friday*

After surviving a scare against Clarksville Northeast last week, the Brentwood Bruins enter Friday night’s matchup against West Creek on a two-game winning streak.

The Bruins needed 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull away from Northeast 41-26.

It was the second straight week and third time this season they posted 41 points or more.

Quarterback Carson Shacklett led last week’s assault with 187 passing yards, 77 rushing yards and four touchdowns (3 run).

He enters this week with 916 passing yards, 299 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns (7 run).

His top targets are receiver Parker Bullion and tight end Christian LaBreche.

Bullion has 37 catches for 397 yards and two touchdowns, while LaBreche has 16 receptions for 253 yards and two scores.

The trio faces a favorable matchup against a struggling West Creek defense.

The Coyotes have allowed 37 points or more in four games this season. They gave up 249 passing yards in last week’s 37-0 defeat against Centennial.

Brentwood’s defense has had its share of troubles recently, as well. It’s allowed 93 points and 1,183 total yards over the past three weeks.

A matchup against West Creek’s offense might be the right medicine for the unit, as the Coyotes average 6.17 PPG.

Ravenwood (2-3, 1-1) at McGavock (1-5, 1-2), 7 p.m. Friday*

If the Ravenwood Raptors are going to overcome their offensive struggles, this is the week to do it.

The Raptors have scored 14 points or less in four straight games, and their average of 14.4 PPG this season is the fourth fewest in Class 6A.

This Friday they face McGavock’s porous defense, which yields 35 points per game — the second-most in 6A.

Quarterback McCain Marrow spearheads the Raptors’ offense.

He has 1,065 passing yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.

His top targets are John Rall (33 rec., 386 yds, 1 TD), Seth Smeltz (22/273/1) and Nate Freeman (22/272/1).

If the Raptors are going to get rolling on offense, they have to find production on the ground.

They average 50.2 rushing yards per game and 2.13 yards per carry. They haven’t rushed for more than 100 yards in a game this season.

On the other side of the ball, Ravenwood’s defense built some momentum in its Week 5 21-13 loss against Franklin.

The Raptors held the Rebels’ high-powered triple-option attack to 278 yards, which is the fewest Franklin had in a game all season.

They have an opportunity to continue their strong play against a McGavock unit that’s scored 15 points or less in four games this fall.
