police activity shuts down petysonville road

A Williamson County Sheriff’s Deputy fatally shot a man after a chase ending on Peytonsville Road this morning.

Franklin Police at 9:41 a.m. began pursuit of stolen car, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn said at a press conference near the scene this afternoon. Sheriff’s Deputies took over the chase at the Lewisburg Pike and Henpeck Lane area, Gwyn said, pursuing the man to the Peytonsville Road I-65 overpass, where he pulled over.

According to Gwyn, as the man exited his car he raised a gun. One of the three deputies from the chase then fired, killing the suspect.

In the aftermath, the TBI took over the scene, shut down the overpass and began its ongoing investigation.

One deputy’s leg was injured in the exchange, though Gwyn said not by gunfire.

Gwyn confirmed the deceased suspect had outstanding warrants for his arrest, but did not release his name because next of kin had not yet been notified. Names of the deputies also were not released.
