The state released TCAP scores Thursday. Here is a look at the results for Williamson County Schools and Franklin Special School District.
Williamson County Schools
WCS Schools saw an increase in percentage of students who scored Proficient or Advanced in Mathematics this year, but saw a slight decrease in scores in Reading/Language Arts and scored about the same as last year in Science.
Almost all End of Course Proficiency Scores saw an increase, with the exception of English II which saw a slight decrease and the percentages for English I and English III were steady with last year’s stats.
WCS saw a huge increase in the number of students enrolling in Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
Williamson County students’ ACT scores were the best in WCS history.
“We experienced academic gains again this year, and I am so proud of everyone. Of course, we still have work to do,” said WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney.
Franklin Special School District
“Out of all 144 school districts, FSSD student achievement ranked 7th in reading/language arts and 8th in math and science,” states a press release.
FSSD growth in grades 3-8 reading/language arts and math improved (.1 percent and 3 percent respectively), and dropped slightly in science (2.8 percent).
The table below shows the percentage of students who scored Proficient or Advanced on the TCAP compared with the state average. FSSD exceeds the state average by 20.6% in Reading/Language Arts, 19% in Math and 18.8% in Science.

Student Preparedness
Worth noting in this year’s data, is the performance of the bellwether grades of 5 and 8, which showed gains in the percentage of students Proficient or Advanced in all three tested subject areas of reading/language arts, math and science. Additionally, 100 percent of students who took the high school credit End of Course Algebra I test scored at the Proficient or Advanced level.
