WCACAC at 3 events to Alleviate Overcrowding

Williamson County Animal Control and Adoption Center in Franklin is overflowing with adoptable pets, Intake numbers have skyrocketed in recent months, with over 304 dogs and 421 cats received at the shelter in May and June. Shelter Director Laura Chavarria says the increase in strays and surrendered animals is putting pressure on the adoption areas. “Currently, all of our dog adoption kennels are being used, and a few adoptable dogs are being held in other areas of the building because of our limited space,” she states. “We even have 26 puppies available for adoption, which is a higher number than usual,” she added. The adoption center at the shelter also has 19 adult dogs and 90 cats and kittens.

To spread the word about the overcrowding, Chavarria said the shelter is planning three adoption events in the community on Saturday, July 12. Puppies will be the feature attraction at a ‘Puppy-Palooza’ event on the shelter property at 106 Claude Yates Dr. in Franklin from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The shelter is also taking adoptable dogs and cats to the Nashville Pet Expo on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Nashville Fairgrounds/Expo Center, 625 Smith Ave. and to the grand opening of the new Franklin Petco store at Mallory Ln. and McEwen Dr.

Even Williamson Source has decided to pitch in with a weekly series called “Pets of the Week”. Every Friday we will feature a dog and cat that needs a home. Meet Buster Keaton and Gloria Swanson (pictured above) from yesterday’s article.
The shelter is involved in a national contest called the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge to adopt more pets during the summer than nine other shelters. Challenge event sponsors have made it possible to offer all adoptions at no-cost with an approved application.
