Trey Harwell

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, Tennessee’s largest non-profit law firm, announced that Trey Harwell, attorney and partner at Neal and Harwell, PLC, will serve as the 2016 chair of the Campaign for Equal Justice, an annual initiative that raises funds for Legal Aid Society.

“Trey’s professional background, leadership skills and steadfast commitment to civic and community service make him an ideal choice for chair of the 2016 campaign,” said Gary Housepian, Legal Aid Society’s executive director. “A longtime champion of access to justice, Trey has provided pro bono representation for our clients. He is a trusted ally, and we are grateful for his continued support of our mission across the region.”

Harwell joined Neal & Harwell in 1996, and his principal areas of practice are in civil litigation, white-collar criminal defense and crisis management. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School and is a Fellow of the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations. He is also former president and current premier member of the Nashville Bar Association, as well as a member of the Nashville Bar Foundation Board of Trustees.

An active member of the Nashville community, Harwell serves as a commissioner of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and as a board member of the Middle Tennessee Council of Boy Scouts of America and Friends of Warner Parks.

“I am honored to serve as chair of Legal Aid Society’s Campaign for Equal Justice in 2016,” said Harwell. “The support that Legal Aid Society receives from legal professionals, local businesses and the community at-large is already outstanding, but there are still thousands of vulnerable Tennesseans who need Legal Aid Society’s help. I’m excited to work with the campaign to close that gap.”

Harwell has put together the following for his committee in 2016:

* Large Firm Co-Chairs: Dewey Branstetter of Sherrard & Roe and Katie Edge of Butler Snow

* Small Firm Co-Chairs: Jonathan Farmer of Farmer Purcell White & Lassiter and Emily Shouse of Patterson Intellectual Property Law

* Government Chair: Bob Watson of Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority

* Judges Co-Chairs: Judge Lynda Jones, General Session Court Div IX, and Judge Philip Smith, 20th Judicial Dist., Div. IV

* Corporate Chair: Laura Tidwell of Nashville Electric Service

* Williamson County Co-Chairs: Joanie Abernathy and Virginia Story, both of Story, Abernathy, & Campbell
