Titans Preview Week 12: Flying With the Eagles

The road only becomes tougher for the woeful Tennessee Titans (2-8) as they shake off the tough second-half Monday Night Football loss to the Steelers and head up north to Philadelphia to take on Chip Kelly’s Eagles (7-3). Kickoff is scheduled for noon CST at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, November 23rd.

Give some credit for the first-half on Monday as Tennessee quickly bounced back from an early 10-0 hole in the first quarter. After Zach Mettenberger’s first throw of the game was returned for a pick-six, the Titans gained two touchdowns and took a small lead going into halftime. But they were facing the Steelers, and Ben Roethlisberger took control with 207 passing yards and the game-winning touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to Antonio Brown and Pittsburgh won 27-24. Mettenberger would record 263 yards, the most ever by a rookie quarterback in a Monday night game, according to the Titans website. He went 15-of-24 in the air for two touchdowns and that interception.

It’s been four years since the last meeting between the Titans and Eagles, and a lot has changed. While the season is turning blue for us, the opposite is happening in Philly. Head coach Chip Kelly in his second year from the University of Oregon brought his high-octane offense cross country. Since his arrival last year, the Eagles won the NFC East and are poised to make a deep run in the upcoming playoffs. The Eagles want to outrun, outscore and kill you with quickness. With their starting quarterback Nick Foles out with a collarbone injury, Philly has given controls to Mark Sanchez and has notched six touchdowns and four interceptions.

Six days isn’t a whole lot of time to prepare, and given that this is Tennessee’s first look at the Eagles in four years, the Titans might not be prepared. As Pittsburgh bullied their way through and took their time, Philly will lean heavily on LeSean McCoy and get seven-points as quickly as they can. Can Tennessee’s defense keep up to the demand, or will they crack under the pressure?

Sunday’s game will be televised regionally on CBS, including Nashville affiliate WTVF NewsChannel 5. On the radio, tune into The Titans Radio Network 104.5 The Zone.
