Three Williamson Co High Schools Rank Among Nation’s Best

Each year, education columnist, Jay Matthews of The Washington Post, compiles a list of the nation’s best schools.

This year, two Williamson County high schools are included in that list.

Brentwood High School was selected as the third most challenging school in Tennessee and No. 209 nationally.  Ravenwood High was ranked fifth in the state and 713th in the United States.

The list is created by using an index formula which includes the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year.

In addition, the US News & World Report recently released its annual listing of America’s Best High Schools.  Ravenwood High ranked fourth in Tennessee and 392nd in the nation.  Page High ranked 11th in the state and 1,227th nationally.

These rankings are determined by evaluating schools in three phases.  The first two steps look at overall student performance on state-mandated assessments, as well as how effectively schools educate black, Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students.  The rankings also consider participation in and performance on Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.
