Thoughts on ‘Oikos’-A New Family Worship Service

As a kid I remember hearing repeatedly from my parents the phrase, “The family that prays together, stays together”. Now being the head of my own family, the application of this phrase has become like hypothetical glue for us just like many other families today. As a man after God’s own heart, a soon-to-be father, and a worship minister/ musician, I have experienced the power and intimacy produced through praise and worship when a family does this together as one unit. Music is a naturally unifying tool for people as a whole, so why keep this out of the family structure?

Being that I am a Worship Minister, it’s not often that I get to share in praise and worship physically next to my wife (and soon-to-be born son), but when that does happen, our worship experience is then more than just on a personal level. There is an intimacy in knowing the heart of the person you’re worshipping alongside, like my wife, that helps me praise the Lord even more. Our little boy Greyson Tucker will be here before we know it, (September 22 to be exact), and I wait in eager expectation thinking in advance about moments I want to share with him, like praise and worship. Having been blessed to serve the past 4 years as the Worship Minister at Harpeth Community Church in Franklin, TN and because of my passion for worshipping together as a family, I’m excited about the fact that in a matter of 4 weeks I will share in the launching of our “Oikos Family Praise and Worship” service. Oikos, pronounced (oy – cause) means household and family in Greek. Leading K -5th Graders and their families together in worship has me counting down to August 11th, 2013 like kids count down to Christmas.

Not sure where you’ll be August 11th, but here’s a personal invite to join me at Harpeth Community Church for the Oikos Family Praise and Worship Service at 9:00 or 10:30am. Bring your friends, family, and you heart ready to sing praises louder than the angels. You may want to stretch before you come because the Spirit will be moving and so will we!

  1. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to worship together and invite their friends and neighbors’ families to join them!
