How You Can Help a Local Foundation Bring Sight to the Blind

“Blind orphan children, the most helpless human beings. It’s hard to imagine more deserving children”- Dr. Ming Wang, Harvard & MIT (MD, PhD).

Many middle Tennesseans have heard the name Dr. Ming Wang and may know him as a LASIK eye surgeon, but you may not know about his foundation–The Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration and how it helps blind orphans around the world.

The Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration is a non-profit that has helped patients from over 40 states in the U.S. and 55 countries worldwide, with all sight restoration surgeries performed free-of-charge.

Most importantly, The Foundation helps those who do not have access to the medical technology or funds for eye surgery. As a Christian, Dr. Ming Wang wants to help those who cannot help themselves. The Foundation networks with missionaries who are traveling. Then, those missionaries are able to connect The Foundation with a child in need to get them to the United States for surgery.

How You Can Help

You don’t have to be a missionary traveling overseas to help The Wang Foundation and you don’t even have to have extra funds to donate.

Invite Dr. Ming Wang to speak at your church:
Dr. Ming Wang meets missionaries every year when he gives talks at local churches and it’s really the first step in potentially finding children who would benefit from his help. So, if you’d like to help The Wang Foundation with its cause, simply contact Dr. Ming Wang and he’d be happy to speak to your church family about what The Wang Foundation is doing to bring children from darkness to sight.

Be a host family:
The Foundation is also always looking for families who would be willing to be a host family to a child travelling to the U.S. for surgery. As each situation is different, the Foundation aids in matching the families and children together. Families interested in hosting a child would be able to meet with Foundation members to discuss all matters regarding hosting: length of time needed for the child to have surgery and recover, age of child, medical severity and more. Again, contact The Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration for more information on becoming a host family.

One of the many children The Foundation has helped is Maria. Read her story here and watch a video about her journey above.
