The Keemosabees are three of Nashville’s most versatile musicians, songwriters, and singers. Ricky Ray Rector, Rick Lonow and Dave Pomeroy are longtime friends who joined forces in 2013 as The Keemosabees. You can see them play Saturday at Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant in downtown Franklin.
Primarily recognized as a guitar player’s guitar player, no matter what the venue, when Ricky Ray plays, everyone in the room sits up and takes notice! A player, producer, singer-songwriter, he works with some of the best, played for some of the best and has a versatile list of cuts unlike any other in Nashville. His song “A Good Day for the Blues,” which was nominated for a W.C. Handy award for Ruth Brown’s rendition and “Darlene” shot to number one with T. Graham Brown. His personal credits include songs done by The Band, Lonnie Mack, Maria Muldaur, Lacy J. Dalton, and Bobbie Keyes (with Keith Richards in “Cheap Winos”). On the road he played with the Nashville band, “The Nerve”, for ten years, followed by stints with Tom T. Hall, Dobie Gray, Lonnie Mack and Tony Joe White.
Rick Lonow is known for his first-call list as a drummer for recording sessions and live work with an elite roster of artists. He’s heard on records by (or with) June Carter Cash (three Grammys there), Billy Joe Shaver, Loretta Lynn, Dierks Bentley, Ronnie Dunn, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello and many more. Lonow’s live credits include shows and tours with the likes of Crystal Gayle, Dr. John, James Burton, The Bellamy Brothers, John Prine and a host of others. He’s a regular in the studio stable of the legendary “Cowboy” Jack Clement,and he can also lay claim to a Gold Record as a songwriter; Rick co-wrote the Poco hit “Call It Love.”
In 1999, Dave Pomeroy created and hosted “Nashville Unlimited”, a radio series produced for Nashville Public Radio, featuring “live in the studio” performances and interviews with a diverse range of Nashville’s finest singers, songwriters, and musicians. The series aired on Nashville Public Radio and other regional markets in 1999 and 2000. Starting in December 2000, his annual Nashville Unlimited Christmas Concert has become an annual event benefiting “Room In The Inn,” with an impressive guest list including John Prine, Maura O’Connell, Tim O’Brien, Jon Randall, and the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble. The recordings of the show have aired on local radio stations as “NU Christmas Specials”. Earwave Records released a”Best of Nashville Unlimited Christmas Vol. 1 CD” in 2004.
The Keemosabees play at Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant in Franklin Saturday, May 6th at 8:30pm. There is a $12 cover charge.
