Independence is no stranger to success. With 3 SEC players on their roster, the Eagles certainly have made a name for themselves.

New head coach Scott Blade, has led Independence to its first two wins against Kenwood and Marshall County. The Eagles will take on their fellow Williamson County neighbor the Summit Spartans on Friday.

Not only will this be a Williamson County match-up, but it will be a night to remember for Independence students, as Friday night is Independence’s homecoming. This holiday week will consist of fun activities for students and highlight the upcoming game.

On Friday, the Eagles will host a tailgate starting at 5 p.m., present Independence alumni on the field at 6:30 p.m., and kick-off will be at 7 p.m.

Last week, Summit took on Page at home losing its game 7-27. Head coach Scott Keasler says they will try and improve on their loss from last week.

“We are not going to quit…we’re going to get back in there and go to work,” said Keasler.

Recently moving to District 11 this year, the Spartans will have a tougher schedule facing other Williamson County teams, such as Independence and Ravenwood. Both 2-0 this season, Indepence and Ravenwood have some very well-known and pre-season ranked players on the rosters this year.

Tennessee commit Vic Wharton III scored four touchdowns in the Eagles win against Marshall County. The dynamic senior had offers from schools like Cincinnati, Mississippi State, and North Carolina. He is certainly an asset for Independence on the field. Senior RaShaan Gaulden will be accompanying Wharton in the Class of 2014 for the Vols, as well.
Independence defeated Marshall County last week 49-14. Marshall County’s Aaron Medley is a part of the Vols Class of 2014, as well. Although he received offers from Texas A&M and Oklahoma, the kicker commited to Tennessee in late spring this year.

However, Summit’s Dee Hunter is right up there with the rest of them. Hunter led the Spartans offensively rushing for 145 yards against Page last week.

The two District 11 teams will match up Friday at Independence. Kick-off will be at 7 p.m.
