After a bout of diverticulitis, which hospitalized 84-year-old country music artist Mel Tillis in January 2016, his health has seen a lot of ups and downs and he has remained in recovery. He was recently moved to Florida, his home state, to recover.

“He is currently at home in Ocala where he is being cared for by nurses as needed and continued physical therapy. His vitals are good and his sense of humor is very much intact. He is trying to get stronger and we are hopeful that will be the case now that he’s back at home. He misses all of his loyal fans and is beyond thankful for all of the well wishes. Your continued thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated,” according to a statement from Tillis’ publicist.

Throughout his health battles, his daughter and country music legend, Pam Tillis, has updated fans on her father’s condition. The last update that Pam Tillis shared on her Facebook page in December stated:

“As many of you already know, Dad had a serious diverticulitis attack last January after a busy fall 2015 performance schedule. On the way to the hospital, he became septic and was in the I.C.U. for the better part of a month. Everything he is dealing with now, almost a year later, is a direct result of that crisis.”

Pam Tillis also mentioned on her Facebook page that her father would not be making any personal appearances in the foreseeable future.

Mel Tillis performed at the Franklin Theatre in March of 2015. We were able to speak with him just before his last performance, read more here.
