Stagnant Offense Dooms FRA in Opener

Versatile Stoxstill-Diggs Big for FRA in Round 2
FRA's Eric Stoxstill-Diggs threw three touchdowns against Hickman County.

The first of 11 straight wins to start the 2015 season for the Franklin Road Academy Panthers came at home against Fayetteville.

In 2016, though, the Panthers didn’t fare so well when they were faced with travelling to the Tigers’ home field, losing 21-3 on Friday to start the season 0-1.

FRA’s offense just never could get rolling. The Panthers accumulated 110 total yards of offense in the game and never found the end zone. They also committed three turnovers – two interceptions and a fumble.

Through the first quarter it looked as if the game would be tight. After Fayetteville scored on a 37-yard pass and catch, the Panthers got on the board with a 19-yard Ryan Madondo field goal.

The issue for FRA is it never got back on the scoreboard, and the Tigers turned a 7-3 halftime advantage into a 21-3 win with two rushing scores in the second half.

Canaan Catlett led the way for the Panthers with seven rushes for 33 yards. Larry Wilhoite added eight runs for 32 yards.

The Panthers will look to get their first win of 2016 next week in their home opener against Columbia Academy.
