Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year Announced

The Volunteer Lawyers Program of Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, Tennessee’s largest non-profit law firm, recently awarded Stacey Smith with its annual Williamson County Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year Award.  The award was presented at a meeting of the Williamson County Bar Association.

Smith, a computer programmer for Aspect in Brentwood and a licensed attorney, provides pro bono legal representation to domestic violence victims in Williamson County. Smith previously worked as a prosecutor for the Davidson County District Attorney General’s office and as a lawyer with Legal Aid Society.

In presenting the award, Lucinda Smith, director of the Volunteer Lawyers Program, said, “Stacey Smith’s dedication to access to justice for the pro bono clients he represents through the Legal Aid Society’s Volunteer Lawyers Program epitomizes the highest calling of our profession. Although he is not engaged in the day-to-day practice of law, Stacey takes on difficult divorce cases for clients with complex problems, using his experience as a family law lawyer and prosecutor to represent victims of domestic violence, securing stability for families whose lives have been disrupted by domestic violence.”
