Spring Hill Teachers Open STEM Center

Former Williamson County teacher and Spring Hill resident, John Bryant, along with his wife Julie have opened a place in Cool Springs where children can learn in a new way.

eXtracurricular recently opened in Cool Springs as a place where children can take more of a hands on approach to learning, specifically learning more about science and technology.

Their philosophy for learning is simple: “The educational philosophy here at eXtracurricular is that all students benefit from hands-on experience with STEM concepts – and there is no reason why these experiences should not be fun! eXtracurricular programs provide many varied opportunities for students to extend their current knowledge, utilize what they have learned, and become more prepared for an ever-changing world.”

John and Julie have brought together their passions to make this new venture work.  John, a former teacher, who says that he has always liked science, experiments and technology says this is a place where kids can learn things that the school system doesn’t have to the budget or time to teach.

Julie, a special education teacher, wants to provide a place where children with special needs can come and learn knowing that their needs will be provided for as well, something Julie tells us that is not being offered at other facilities.

Each class can accommodate 12 children with computer programming, robotics, game design, study of DNA and roller coaster physics. Current class offerings are for students K-8 and take place after school or for home school students during the school day. The Bryants also plan to offer Parent Night Out special classes and other special events. If you notice how well the room is laid out and the very clever eXtracurricular sign, it was designed by John’s father who was a set designer for the show Hee Haw which is where the skeleton who sits in the corner of the room formerly resided.

This guy used to be on set at Hee Haw-check back to see what he's up these days
