Spring Hill Pickin’ in the Park registration open

The Fifth Annual Spring Hill Pickin’ in the Park monthly community music event kicks off May 20 at Harvey Park, and registration remains open for musicians interested in performing.

This rain or shine event is family friendly and encourages the community to bring a lawn chair or blanket and take in local music between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., one night per month, at Harvey Park, 4001 Miles Johnson Pkwy, in Spring Hill. The music is mostly acoustic, singer-songwriter type offerings, with a mixture of rock, bluegrass, country and blues.

Musicians perform under the park’s Red Oak Pavilion. There’s playground equipment in the park for children, along with restroom facilities. Food, drinks and coolers are welcome. Food trucks will be available on some nights.

In partnership with the Spring Hill Parks & Recreation Department, Pickin’ in the Park founder Matt Meyer is encouraging local musicians and songwriters to sign up for upcoming performance sessions, which run monthly, May 20 through Sept. 16, on the third Saturdays. Here’s how:

• Before being booked, acts should be able to provide some example of their ability to perform live, via video link or a brief smart phone video.

• Preferred acts are solo singer-songwriters or duos. If you are planning a larger group, please discuss your audio needs with event organizers before signing up. Drum kits are not allowed.

• Acts should prepare four family-friendly songs and be able to perform accompaniment. It’s not karaoke, but backing tracks will be considered if it’s an original song.

• Amplification system (with two microphones, stands and cables) is provided. Speakers include two main speakers and one stage monitor. Please bring your own instrument cables.

These dates are available for booking: May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16. The final event on Sept. 16 will again be held in conjunction this year with the Spring Hill Art Walk.
