Booster Club of the Week: Nolensville High School Athletic Committee

It’s football time for our area high schools, and behind each football team is a group of supportive parents who work tirelessly to raise the funds to ensure the season goes smoothly. Each week, we will feature a different booster club from Williamson County. This week, we spoke to Nolensville High School Athletic Committee President, Jason Sparrow, to learn more about what’s involved in beginning a new program and their upcoming events.

Nolensville High School is a new school, can you tell us what is involved in starting a new booster club?

Our Athletic Committee falls under the umbrella of our PTSO. Nolensville High School was intentional in creating a Parent – Teacher – Student Organization because our volunteerism is all for the students at Nolensville High School. Our Athletic and Band Committees fall under our PTSO, which is a 501(c)(3) organization. Parent volunteers have been working since last September with our administration to create governing documents, guidelines, in addition to the best sponsorship packages and opportunities to raise money for items not funded by the county. We are grateful to have the experienced volunteers from other Williamson County Schools to share their best practices with us so we can start out as efficiently as possible.

What three words best describe your booster club?

Three words to describe our Athletic Committee are Support, Strengthen, and Connect. A motto of our Knights is Live by the S.W.O.R.D. Start With Our Relationships Daily. You will notice our turf sponsor banners all have the sword and shield logo and “Live by the S.W.O.R.D.” motto.

Do you have any upcoming fundraisers for this year?

We are in the middle of our Legacy Giving Campaign. Donations of $500 and more from individuals and $2,500 and more from area businesses will be recognized on a commemorative glass piece graciously donated by the Town of Nolensville. Donations can be earmarked for Athletics, Academics/Arts, or Band. For community members and businesses looking for a way to support Nolensville High School, our Legacy Giving Campaign runs through October 15, 2016. For additional information, please go to www.nhsptso.com or contact NHS PTSO President, Klaire Powers at 615-477-5069.

Paint The Town Blue August 29 – September 2 for Homecoming

Support NHS Homecoming by displaying blue ribbons, blue lights, etc, in the community! Help us Paint the Town Blue for our Nolensville Knights’ first ever Homecoming game, September 2nd at 7pm.

This November 12th we have a Run, Walk, Roll planned to help raise $25,000 for track and field equipment. We will have a 5k, a fun-run, and the roll piece is to be inclusive of our friends and neighbors with special needs. We will accommodate wheel chairs on the track for this event. Our Athletic Committee is super excited at the potential to host high school, middle school, and elementary school track and field meets in the future. One of our long term goals is to host the Special Olympics Track and Field meet on our campus.

What is your first goal you would like to accomplish this year?

We have exceeded our short term goals – secure sponsorships, host WCS Media Day, host our first ever football scrimmage/Food Truck Festival, and purchase equipment for grass fields. The Nolensville community is extremely supportive of our school. We have recently purchased the mowers and a utility vehicle to service our general practice fields and softball and baseball fields.

Mid-range goal – Our biggest challenge we face is to build “Fields of Dreams” for our softball and baseball programs and fund bleacher seating for our soccer programs. We have a unique opportunity to build top-notch facilities around basic ballfields. We are currently looking for a volunteer to help draw a rendering of the Fields of Dreams to scale. For additional information, please contact Jason Sparrow at [email protected].

There ares still Athletic Sponsorships available, interested in sponsoring NHS Athletics, please contact Jeremy Smith @ [email protected].
