September is National Chicken, Honey & Rice Month (September is… Series – 3)

You can tell the summer heat is waning and appetites are in full bloom. September is all about food it seems, as we celebrate National Chicken, Honey & Rice month. For more than two decades, the National Chicken Council has banded together to increase chicken sales in September.

National Chicken Month makes the cows of Chic-fil-A very happy as it promotes the health benefits provided by eating chicken. The chicken industry is booming in the U.S., and their website offers many resources to support the cause. They have a full database of recipes for your bird.

National Rice month sounds a little less spectacular until you realize how many great meals incorporate chicken and rice together. The USA Rice Federation chose September to remind you of the rice harvest and asks you to invest in the economy by purchasing rice. The federation sponsors a National Rice Month Scholarship every year during rice month. All the information about the contest and entry forms can be found HERE.

The last National celebration is Honey. Unlike rice, honey is a crop for Tennessee. Natural honey can be found at any local farmer’s market and the healthy results for eating it are highly documented. We suggest you indulge in all three of these national appreciation events at the same time and whip up one of our favorite dishes, Honey Chicken. Let us know how yours turns out.
