Senior Programs at Franklin Recreation Complex

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department invites all area seniors to participate in a wide variety of ongoing programs at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road.  Senior programs are designed for residents age 55 and older (unless otherwise noted). Anyone may register for and participate in the department’s programs, teams, classes and events. Some programs require pre-registration.

AQUAMOTION – ARTHRITIC/POST REHAB WATER CLASS

Is the pain of everyday living getting you down?  Then join Heather Atkinson’s “Aquamotion” on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. This class provides an opportunity for people with arthritis and post-rehab conditions to improve flexibility, coordination and muscle strength. No registration required. Please pay at the front desk before class.  The fee is $2 for participants ages 55 and older and $3 for ages 54 and younger.

SMART MOVES

Seniors can get mind and body moving in Smart Moves, a class designed to increase strength, promote movement and improve brain stimulation. The class is focused on the 55 and older population needing a less strenuous workout with no floor work. Chairs are provided for those with balance issues. Smart Moves is a drop-in class on Mondays and Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The class fee is $2, payable at the door.

POWER TOOLS

Maximize your total body workout in Power Tools: Increasing muscle strength and endurance, elements of cardio, core strengthening, and balance training, are all components of this class. Their fun and friendly atmosphere provides a total body workout for active boomers. No registration is required and the instructor is Nancy Rieves. Power Tools is for ages 55 and older. Classes are held on ongoing Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Please note this class does not meet the first Wednesday of each month (skip August 6). The fee is $3 per class paid at the front desk.

TRAINING WHEELS

Seniors (55 and older) can give indoor cycling a try in this new training class. Learn to ride for fitness and burn a lot of calories. Indoor cycling is safe and comfortable with no traffic worries. Cycling also builds lower body strength. Training Wheels is $4 per class, and meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the indoor cycling studio at the Franklin Recreation Complex. Drop-ins are welcome. POTLUCK and BINGO

Join seniors (55 and older) are invited to bring their grandchildren and join for a potluck lunch on Monday, August 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex. The group will play Bingo after lunch. Meat and drinks will be provided, and attendees are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Registration is required July 28-August 15. Call (615) 790-5719, ext. 2010 to let them know how many are coming. Please note: due to potluck preparations, doors will open at 11:30 a.m.  There is no charge for this event.
