Rainy Day Plan-Ravenwood Runway Show

Lights, camera, fashion! The Ravenwood High School Runway Show, titled Animal Kingdom, will debut new, student-designed fashion lines April 25, 2015  at Ravenwood High School.

Eighty-five designers and 45 volunteer student models will participate, with the show winner and the private collection winner each receiving a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.

“I am looking most forward to the individual styling that students have chosen to accentuate the garments made this year,” said RHS fashion design teacher Sabrina Maggart. “One student had all custom made jewelry done by a local artist to match her designs while others have made custom headpieces and come up with unique makeup ideas.”

The main show titles include, in show order: The Savannah, Birds of Paradise, Cold Blooded, Big Cats, Aquatica, Extraterrestrial, Flutter, Arctic Ice and Plush (the stuffed animals).

“Plush will be the most fun collection because the crowd will have to guess which toy box item was the inspiration for the look,” said RHS junior Riley Stofka. “We’ve gone from Rainbow Brite to retro Pebbles Flintstone for these designs.”

“The music is going to be great this year,” said Mariah. “It is really neat that the final collection for the show has a tribal feel and the perfect song to close the program.”

Students spend countless hours preparing for the show.

“Advanced fashion classes log 28 to 30 hours of class time on show construction; Fashion 2 students log 15 days of class time on show construction; and Intro to Fashion classes spend a couple of weeks on instruction and work together on their designs,” said Maggart. “Additionally, private collection students logged hours and hours at home, and individually financed and styled their own shows.”

To make the show a success, the fashion design students have collaborated with RHS DECA to create the ticket and program designs. Additionally, RHS student photographers helped produce Threads, the Ravenwood Runway Magazine, as well as poster art for the show.

Threads will hit the newsstands April 17 and showcases many outfits featured in the fashion show.Centennial Cosmetology classes and AVEDA Cool Springs are doing hair and makeup for the event.

The RHS Fashion Show will take place Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at the Ravenwood Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10.
