Protect Your Belongings: 5 Safety Tips from Brentwood PD

The City of Brentwood’s Police Department has had to respond to several reports of stolen credit cards, purses and iPhones in the past few weeks. Police have offered a list of suggestions to help residents protect themselves from crime.

Here are steps that you can take to help keep your family and your neighborhood safe.

1. Lock your doors.

Keep exterior doors and windows locked at all times – even when you are at home. Lock your car doors after removing valuables from inside. Never leave your purse, wallet or other valuables in your vehicle.

2. Set your Alarm.

If you have a security system, be sure to set it especially during the daytime. Most residential burglaries occur during the daytime hours.

3. Watch your purse or wallet when shopping.

Never leave your shopping cart unattended while you shop. Keep your purse closed while it is in your cart and consider holding it or placing your hand through the strap.

4. Work together with your neighbors.

Watch out for suspicious or unusual behavior in your neighborhood. Get to know your neighbors and their children so you can look out for one another. If you notice something suspicious notify police immediately.

5. Take advantage of FREE Crime Prevention Programs.

The Brentwood police department offers several programs including; Neighborhood Watch, Home Security Surveys, Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) and RADKids.
