Monday night was a defining moment for the Predators as it marked their first ever Stanley Cup Final appearance. The Penguins on the other hand had been there and done that as they won the Stanley Cup last season.
Nashville found itself down 3-0 after 20 minutes of play but controlling things for a majority of the contest. The Preds ended the night outshooting the Penguins 26-12 and did come back from a 3-0 deficit, but it was Pittsburgh who took Game One by a count of 5-3.

Jake Guentzel received a pass from former Predator Matt Cullen and Guentzel was able to send a laser past Rinne to give the Penguins a 4-3 advantage with just over three minutes left in regulation. Pittsburgh was able to score on an empty net as well with 1:02 remaining solidifying the outcome.
Rinne did not have his best night, to say the least as he stopped just seven of the 11 shots he faced. The Preds managed 46 total shot attempts in all situations while the Penguins had just 28. Pittsburgh had just four shots on goal during the last 40 minutes of regulation.
The loss was Nashville’s first Game One loss of these playoffs.
Game Two is set for Wednesday night in Pittsburgh with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
