Contemporary may not be the first word that comes to mind when you think of oriental rugs. However, more and more designers have started using these timeless works of art as a new way to spruce up a living space.

Take the home of Cammie White, who lives in a newly constructed townhouse in Westhaven. She used oriental rugs in a way that most might not expect. It doesn’t take long after walking through the front door to feel as though you were transported to a tropical environment.

“This is my first time to have light colored rugs,” said White. “In my old house I had rugs that were darker.”

White worked with a designer to implement an avant-garde decorating technique: integrating old with new. Antiques can be found all over this stunning house and that includes six rugs she purchased from Essy’s Rug Gallery.

“He’s done rugs for my parents, for my sister. I’ve known him for 15 or 20 years and he’s kind of like a part of the family,” said White.

While she and her husband were waiting for construction to wrap up, White was already hard at work with Essy picking out the best rugs to be brought into this new arena.

“He would sometimes bring several different rugs for us to try out in these rooms as this space was still being built,” said White. “It’s important to test out a rug for 24 hours to see it in different lighting. Essy is more than willing to work with you and allow you to do whatever is needed for you to be comfortable with your purchase.”

Essy’s Rug Gallery has hundreds of styles available. Visit his showroom at The Factory in Franklin or call 615-595-0959 for more information.
