Franklin residents Bob and Kemberly Harris operate a business that is really on the road to success.

Pedego® Franklin, which offers sales and rentals of Pedego electric bikes, is part of a growing boom in electric bike rentals. They offer everything from scenic country rides through beautiful Williamson County to an alternative means of commuting.

The Harrises, who are from Tennessee and have lived in Franklin since 2006, were spending some time in the Lake Tahoe region of California a few years ago when they noticed an electric bike shop.

“There wasn’t anything like that around here,” Bob said. “We were out in California and happened to come across the shop, and it seemed like such a great opportunity.”

Pedego, as Bob says, has been around as a company since 2007, making them one of, if not the, most established electric bike companies in the country. So they decided to open a dealership in cooperation with Pedego in Franklin.

The grand opening was in April 2015, and in November of last year they moved to their new home at 234 5th Avenue North next to The Juice Bar in Franklin.

They offer a large variety of bikes. On the rental side, they have 3.5 miles of trails nearby, as well as a 22 and 28-mile loop that goes to the Leiper’s Fork area and back. The bikes go up to 20 miles per hour, fully powered by electric. Harris said there is also a 35-mile loop for anyone interested.

You can also buy electric bikes at Pedego. They cost between $2,400 and $3,800, and are fully street legal for anyone with or without a license and max out at 20 miles per hour  Cheaper than most motorcycles and without the cost of gas– you just plug the charger into any normal outlet.

It is perfect for a short to medium commute.  The batteries have enough juice to go about 60 miles on a charge.

Pedego Franklin offers a variety of chic, sturdy and leading-edge electric bicycles. Models include the stylish Comfort Cruiser line and sleek City Commuters as well as off-road Trail Trackers and low-slung Boomerang bikes.  Pedego seems to have a model for everyone. Free test rides are available.

Visit them for a fee test ride and explore the Nashville region in a whole new way. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Electric bike rentals start at $14 per hour.
