Page Favored This Friday Against Marshall Co

Page hosts Marshall County Friday night at 7 p.m. in an interesting week three match-up: it is that wonderful District Match-Up time of the year again! Marshall is 0-2 going into this week, which is their home opener, so despite being winless and a slight underdog (180th in Tennessee, to Page’s 163rd), a win can put the Tigers at 1-2, right in the middle of the hunt for the AA District 12 crown. Especially, if Spring Hill (1-1) wins against Cascade (2-0) this week,  the winner of this match-up could be going into week four only a game, or two, behind the lead in the District.

The Page Patriots, of course, at 1-1 and playing at home, have the most to gain: a 2-1 record in a fairly up-for-grabs District, which after this week will have at most two teams with 3 wins. (Cascade, if it wins, and the winner of the To-Stay-Undefeated Bowl: CPA at Giles).

Marshall, on the other hand, has the most to lose. A loss, and the 0-3 record will put the Tigers three games behind whichever team/teams remain undefeated after this week. A loss also will guarantee Marshall sole possession of last place in the District.

As for the actual match-up between the two teams, most stats are strongly in Page’s favor.

In their season opener against Lipscomb (85th in TN), the Patriots put up 42, and quarterback Tom Bra- er, rather, Zak Mizell three for 545 yards and accounted for five touchdowns (two passing, three rushing).

It was just too bad that Lipscomb went and scored 60.

Last week, against Summit (ranked 221st), Page won 27-7, which was enough to give the Patriots 69 points for the season, the most so far in their Districts (Cascade is 2nd with 65).

Marshall, on the other hand, is last with 35 points scored.  Bad news, again, for the Tigers: they are also last in their District in points allowed, with 83; Page is 2nd worst with 67 (both a far cry from Cascades 17 points allowed, or CPA’s 21).

So, if the numbers are the start of a season long pattern- it looks like this Friday Page and Marshall both will struggle on defense, and the team with the best offense will probably win.

And which team that favors is no big mystery.
