Ongoing Teen and Adult Classes at Franklin Recreation Complex

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of ongoing programs for adults and teens at the Franklin Recreation Complex, located at 1120 Hillsboro Road. Anyone may register for and participate in the department’s programs, teams, classes and events. Pre-registration is required for all classes and payment must be recieved within five days after.

PIANO & VOICE LESSONS

Private weekly piano or voice lessons for beginning or intermediate students offered by James Weinberg. Learn note reading skills, music theory and artistic technique using a variety of styles. Half-hour lessons are offered on Fridays, August 1-29 from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The five-week session is $125, plus a supply fee payable to the instructor for books as needed.  For more information, visit www.jamesmusicstudio.com. GUITAR LESSONS

Teens and adults can learn guitar or bass guitar in this series of private lessons. Instructor John D’Amato has over 25 years as a teacher and performer. Lessons focus on improving technique, reading musical notation, improvisation and tablature. A four-week Monday session will be offered August 4-25 in 30-minute or one-hour sessions between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. ($88). WESTERN LINE DANCING

Whether you can “boot-scoot” with the best of them or you want to test your “two left feet” out on the dance floor for the first time, you will love participating in the Western Line Dancing Class. You’ll have a great time and feel the benefits of a cardio workout. Come learn the latest and hottest new line dances. Line dancing meets Tuesdays, August 5-26 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The course is $30 per person or $55 a couple, (must be family members). To register, call (615) 790-5719, ext. 2010.

HOW TO GET THOUSANDS FOR COLLEGE

Learn the secrets of the college financial aid system, how to increase eligibility for financial aid, how to pick colleges with the best aid packages and more. Class will cover scholarships, grants and low interest loans. This class is for adults and meets on Tuesday, August 19 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The class is free, but you must register by calling the Genesis Group at (615) 370-8015.

RETIREMENT 101

Learn the fundamentals of retirement and foundational steps of retirement planning. Gain knowledge and become comfortable with the tools available to help you get the most of retirement. WRITING FOR STAGE SCREEN AND LITERATURE

Join published journalist (Creative Screenwriting, Backstory), screenwriter, and author Sean Kennelly as he teaches how to create engaging characters and build entertaining stories for any medium (film, tv, stage and/or literature). Come with your ideas and leave with a roadmap to construct your own original story. Course meets Tuesdays, August 26-September 30 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and covers theme, character, story structure, description, and dialogue. Course instructor recommends purchasing “Save the Cat!” by Blake Snyder as it will be referenced extensively in class.
