Ongoing Children’s Classes in Franklin

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of ongoing children’s classes at the Franklin Recreation Complex, located at 1120 Hillsboro Road. You may also receive department information by “liking” them on Facebook. Williamson County Parks and Recreation is a public organization, here to benefit the community. Anyone may register for and participate in the department’s programs, teams, classes and events. Pre-registration is required for all classes. All payments must be received within five days of registration.

PIANO & VOICE LESSONS
Private weekly piano or voice lessons for beginning or intermediate students offered by James Weinberg. Learn mote reading skills, music theory and artistic technique using a variety of styles. Piano is offered for ages four and older, and voice is offered for ages seven and older. Half-hour lessons are offered on Fridays, August 1-29 from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The five-week session is $125, plus a supply fee payable to the instructor for books as needed. GUITAR LESSONS
Kids ages five and older can learn guitar or bass guitar in this series of private lessons. Instructor John D’Amato has over 25 years as a teacher and performer. Lessons focus on improving technique, reading musical notation, improvisation and tablature. A four-week Monday session will be offered August 4-25, in 30-minute sessions between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. ($88). To register, call (615) 790-5719, ext. 2010 and reserve a 30-minute time slot.

SPEED AND AGILITY TRAINING
Join this new Plyometric exercise class: This class is for anyone who wants to get faster, jump higher or move quicker. Plyometrics uses explosive jumping exercises for maximum results. Learn correct movements with hands-on instruction. Plyometrics will be offered Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Classes are $10 each and open to ages 10 through adults. TAE KWON DO-MPact Martial Arts
Children ages six and older may participate in this Martial Arts program. Instructor Eric Melton designed the class to bring the beginner into a high level of physical well being! Age-level classes for children are offered on an ongoing basis on Wednesdays, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Contact Eric for information, registration and class fees at (615) 275-7002.

BRAIN BUILDERS-LEGOS® MACHINES
Kids ages eight and older will enjoy this hand-on learning experiences using Legos® to engage creative thinking, teamwork and problem solving skills. Gain an understanding of simple machines, and how to incorporate the power brick into models. Legos® Machines will meet Wednesdays, August 13-September 3 from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. The course is $40, plus a $10 supply fee payable to the instructor. BRAIN BUILDERS-LEGOS® WeDo ROBOTICS
This class uses the Legos® WeDo LabVIEW software to build and program different models. Kids ages six and older will enjoy this hand-on learning experiences using Legos® to engage creative thinking, teamwork and problem solving skills.
