One Play Later, Raptors Ready to Start New Season

Last year’s OT loss to perennial state power Maryville, proved that Ravenwood’s Head Coach Will Hester isn’t afraid of tough decisions. After matching Maryville’s OT touchdown with their own, Hester decided to go for 2, resulting in an interception, a loss , and the end of a terrific 14-1 season.

“Anytime you have a chance to play for a championship, it is a very magical season. Hopefully we can call on those experiences to help us have a great season this year”- Ravenwood Coach Will Hester – prepweekly.com

Ravenwood Looks to Continue Winning Ways

Gone is big target Van Jefferson, who has taken his receiving skills to Ole Miss. Returning 10 starters to a team that was so close, is reason for hope for the Raptors, but it won’t be an easy road as Ravenwood starts the season against Siegel tonight at Ravenwood at 7:00 p.m.

According to Chad Withrow of prepweekly.com :

“Chris Rowland will get the majority of carries at RB and is described as a “Sammy Watkins type player” by Coach Hester. Couple Rowland’s swiss-army knife like versatility with Connor Jeffries and his 4.4 40-yard dash speed, and you have the makings of a dynamic  Raptor backfield. Providing the deep threat at wide receiver for Rappe will be Nathan Freeman (6;2, 175, Jr.).”

Withrow goes on to write:

“Defensively, the Raptors will look to confuse opposing offenses with a slant and angle, 3-4 approach. It worked very well a year ago when Ravenwood shutout three opponents and held Williamson County rival Centennial to a mere 10 points in a hard fought Quarterfinal win. ”
