Margaret Jean Thomas was born in Elliott, Miss., on Oct. 2, 1924, to the late J.A. Thomas and Mable Cook Thomas, and passed away on Dec. 5, 2016, in Brentwood, Tenn., at the age of 92.
She is survived by a great-niece and nephew, and a few close friends.
Jean will be remembered as a great friend to many; for how she traveled extensively with her dear friend, Emily Cox (who preceded her in death); and for her devotion to her church, Brentwood United Methodist Church, where she gifted others with her musical abilities of playing the piano for many years. Whereas in her later years, she in turn enjoyed the musical outreach of those in the church who would bless her with the gift of caroling during the holiday season, just as they did the night before she stepped into eternity.
She also spent the majority of her career at Acuff-Rose Music, where she was an influential part in the country music development of many well-known artists, such as Roy Acuff, Roy Orbison, and many other accomplished writers as she would transcribe their songs into sheet music. Her talents and abilities were an exceptional commodity to many artists in the industry.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Brentwood United Methodist Church with Dr. Jeff Wilson officiating. Following the service, inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
