The Nolensville Recreation Center is shaping up to be one of the roomiest in Williamson County with 35,809 square feet dedicated to wellness activities. Check out our slideshow of the rec center above.

As the fifth recreation center in Williamson County, the Nolensville Recreation Center will be a full service community center, complete with a gymnasium, exercise area, rooms for dance classes, aerobics, and spin bikes, child care, an entire hallway dedicated to programs with a big meeting room and warming kitchen, plus a swimming pool, and of course locker rooms with showers.

“What we really like is the size of the rooms,” said Red Berry, project coordinator for Parks and Recreation. “Compared to our other facilities, the rooms here are just gigantic.”

The rec center is being built in the old Nolensville elementary school, which was constructed in the 70s. Demolition started on the building in early 2013, and now they are nearing the stages of full completion.

“Once we’re done building you will not be able to tell that this was a school house,” Berry said.

Only one addition is being made to the building, a shower space connected to the locker rooms. Otherwise, all other space in the facility was previously part of the school.

The wellness area has exercise equipment and weight machines with plans to mount TVs for all sides of the room, and the special feature of a separate room to the side of the wellness area for free weights.

Area for arts and crafts, child care, warming kitchen and big meeting room along with rooms for adult and child programs are separated from the “sweat area” and will facilitate all kinds of Williamson County programs and some community meetings as well.

The pool area is very similar to the Spring Hill facility, and is connected to a pool house with locker rooms, restrooms, and a front desk where people will show their pool pass. The pool house is not connected to the larger facility.

Town of Nolensville is splitting the $5.6 million cost equally with the Williamson County government, and once the center is complete it will be run by the Williamson County Parks and Recreation department.

Williamson County Parks and Recreation is anticipating that they will have the Nolensville Recreation Complex open by this fall.
