Monday Special: Health Inspection Scores

Health inspection

We are starting a weekly series listing some of the best (and worst) health inspection scores for Williamson County restaurants, bars, businesses, hotels, schools and day care centers.

This introductory post covers some background information about health inspections and includes the most recent scores from some popular local places. Starting next Monday we will put up the first weekly best and worst list along with any new details or news that comes.

Scores used to be posted online, but the most recent scores (from the second half of 2015) have not been posted nor have any that were done in 2016 so far.

A Few Recent Scores

Most scores in Williamson County are somewhere in the 90s on the 100 point scale. Scores below 90 are rare and below 80 exceptional. Businesses are given a chance for a follow up inspection soon after if given a poor score.

Inspections are once every six months, once between January 1 and June 30 and once between July 1 and December 31 of each year.

There are two types of violations- critical and non-critical. According to the Tennessee Department of Health web site:

“Critical Violations: Violations of the Food Regulations, which, if left uncorrected, are more likely than other violations to directly contribute to food contamination or illness. Examples of critical violations include poor temperature control of food, improper cooking, cooling, refrigeration, or reheating temperatures.

“Non-Critical Violations: Violations not directly related to the cause of food-borne illness, but if uncorrected, could impede the operation of the restaurant. The likelihood of food-borne illness in these cases is very low. Non-Critical violations, if left uncorrected, could lead to Critical violations. Examples of non-critical violations include a lack of facility cleanliness and maintenance.”

Next week we will start listing other businesses, and going over violations on some of the worst scores.
