New Building or New Alternative Is the Question Facing Franklin City Planners

City Administrator Eric Stuckey has asked for a re-evaluation of the plan to tear down the current city hall and build on the property. It has been more than three years since the discussion started and Stuckey feels there may be better options. “A lot has happened in the last three-and-a-half years”

Spending money year after year to keep the current building viable is a drain on city funds. Last year almost $75,000 was used to cover repairs at City Hall. “I personally feel it’s throwing money down the drain,” remarked Alderman Beverly Burger. This year an expected $50,000 will be needed toward facility upkeep.

Nashville real-estate developer Bill Berkley still believes the project has merit and knows of a hotel company interested in the investment. “It’s a great time to move forward,” says Berkley. Eric Stuckey is not so sure of that assessment and simply asks, “what are the options in the current reality?”
