The Brentwood Planning Commission in an unusual action, though not an unsurprising one, added a motion to its Planning Commission Agenda next Monday to nix the approved plan for a Harley-Davidson Dealership.

Planning Commissioner Sandi Wells put the motion to the agenda Wednesday morning, which if approved and allowed will void the site plan the commission approved on March 4.

The plan for the dealership has given the Planning Commission and the City Commission quite a headache in the last two months. A controversial issue was Harley’s plan to host several outdoor events each month on the dealership, which led to much public outcry and a debate about updating the city’s noise ordinance.

At recent City Commission meetings citizen after citizen rose to speak during the public hearing part of the agenda to express opinions on the anticipated noise and traffic the dealership would bring.

The motorcycle manufacturer’s plan puts the dealership in Mallory Park business area at the end of Mallory Road, near the neighborhoods of Willowick, Brentwood South and Moreland Estates.

Wells and Mark Gorman, now City Commissioner, were the only two Planning Commission members to vote against the dealership in March. Under Robert’s Rules of Order, the commission may consider the motion to rescind the proposal; however they do state that it must be done within a 60-day window. The Planning Commission’s next meeting, at 5211 Maryland Way at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 5, falls outside of that window.

City Manager Kirk Bednar said that the city is reviewing the motion and the Rules of Order to make sure the matter is handled appropriately.
