Middle TN Under Winter Storm Warning for the Weekend

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 6am Friday to 6am Saturday. A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency has also declared a level III state of emergency ahead of another round of winter weather.

NWS says:
“A potent weather system will move into the region Thursday night, offering up quite a bit of rain. As we get into the early morning hours on Friday, cold air supportive of wintry weather will begin to move into Middle Tennessee. A transition from rain to sleet and freezing rain to snow will move across the mid-state throughout the day Friday.”

Thursday Night
Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 36. East northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Friday
Rain and sleet before noon, then rain and snow between noon and 3pm, then snow after 3pm. Temperature falling to around 31 by 5pm. North northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday Night
Snow, mainly before midnight. Low around 24. North wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
